Angela Taylor ’09 is a Senior Software Engineer at Google who transitioned into a technical role from a non-traditional path. Growing up in rural Arkansas, Taylor was far removed from the Tech industry and never considered a technical career for herself. She graduated from Northwestern in 2009 with a BA in Communication Studies and started her career in Google’s People Operations (HR) department. It wasn’t until she was introduced to computer programming in 2011 that Taylor realized she had a passion for developing software, and for the next six years, she worked tirelessly to gain the skills needed to transition to an engineering role.
Since making the transition into engineering, Taylor has had the opportunity to do both product engineering and infrastructure engineering, and has grown into a technical lead for her team. She enjoys sharing her career journey to encourage others to pursue their audacious career goals.
